site.btaPoland's University of Lodz Honours Three Bulgarian Scholars
Three distinguished Bulgarian scientists - Prof Mariyana Tsibranska-Kostova, Prof Ivan Biliarsky, and Prof Anna-Maria Totomanova, were awarded the prestigious medal Universitatis Lodziensis Amico of the University of Lodz, Poland, the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia said.
Prof Tsibranska is a professor at the Prof Lyubomir Andreichin Institute for Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).
Prof Totomanova is a leading figure in the field of Slavic studies, Paleo-Slavic studies and textual studies. She is a pioneer in the study of Slavic and Byzantine writings. She is a professor at the St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University and teaches at several international universities. Her research on Slavic lexicology, grammar, and the history of languages has had a profound and lasting effect on the development of this scholarly field. Prof Totomanova has been collaborating with the University of Lodz for more than 20 years.
Prof Biliarsky is a historian and professor at the Institute for Historical Research at BAS.
The awards serve as a recognition for Tsibranska, Totomanova and Biliarsky’s outstanding contribution to scientific research, as well as to the development of international cooperation between Bulgaria and Poland.
