Leading companies and individuals associated with the mining and mineral industry and science received awards on Miner's Day, celebrated on August 18. The Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BCMG) held its traditional forum in Sofia on Sunday on the occasion of the professional holiday, at which representatives of companies from the industry received awards for their professional success and socially responsible causes.

The award for the highest annual results in the mineral resources industry in 2023 was awarded to Asarel-Medet AD with CEO Eng. Nikolay Peltekov for achieving an 11% increase in production in 2023 against 2022.

An award for innovation in the industry was received by Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech EAD and CEO Eng. Lyubomir Hainov for the project "Researchers of the future - an innovative approach to exploration activities using artificial intelligence and machine learning".

The safety and health award was received by Imerys Minerals Bulgaria AD for achieving zero occupational injuries in 2023.

The award for care for nature and for no environmental violations in 2023 was given to the companies Rodopi Eco Projects Ltd, Vatiya Quartz AD with CEO Lyuba Kozhuharova and Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech EAD with CEO eng. Lyubomir Heinov.

Awards for the companies that actively participated in fire fighting in recent months went to Asarel-Medet AD with CEO Eng. Nikolay Peltekov, Elacite-Med AD with CEO Eng. Stoil Dimitrov for the project "Technical and Biological Reclamation of Benkovski-2 Tailings Storage Facility", Dundee Precious Metals Krumovgrad EAD with CEO Irena Tsakova, Maritsa-East Mines EAD with CEO Todor Todorov for assistance in fire suppression in the regions of Haskovo, Yambol and Stara Zagora.

The corporate social responsibility award was given to Kaolin EAD with CEO Dimitar Angelov for the initiative "Investing in the future of the regions", as well as to Geotechmin with manager Tsolo Vutov for the project "Let's make a film", which promotes the profession of the miner. The project covers 11 schools and two vocational secondary schools in the region of Etropole and Sredna Gora. The films were awarded at the XII International Festival of Youth Media Art in Varna.

Collective awards for contribution to the Bulgarian mineral industry - for anniversaries of active members of the BCMG were given to TotalEnergies, which celebrates its centenary, and to Mines Maritsa-East EAD for the 60th anniversary of the Troyanovo-3 mine.

Marin Blagiev (Blagiev Engineering EOOD), Rosalina Kozleva (Infraproject Consult EOOD), who is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMGC, Lyubomir Angelov (Aqua Terra Consult EOOD), Mina Valeva (Kaolin AD), who is also the Chairman of the Law and Ethics Standing Committee of BCMG, were awarded individual prizes for their contribution to the industry. An award was also given to Nedelcho Bonev from Minstroy Holding, as well as to Petar Ivanov from Polymet Import Export.

The award for the best student of the Saint John of Rila University of Mining and Geology was given to Kristian Dinkov, who received the award of Minstroy Holding AD, Krasimira Georgieva, awarded with the prize of Lachezar Tsotzorkov Foundation, Viktor Veselinov, awarded with the prize of the BCMG.

Prizes for objective and consistent coverage of the industry were awarded to Ivan Ivanov - publisher of the local newspaper Region in the town of Pirdop, as well as to Liliya Goranova from the SeeNext magazine.

The award of the Scientific and Technical Union of Mining and Geology went to prof. dr. eng. Georgi Mihailov, prof. dr. eng. Ivan Markov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Evgenia Tarasova.
