Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov Saruday visited the village of Oresh in the Svishtov region because of a signal from citizens that local GERB party members want to close the school in the village where many children are educated, Vazrazhdane said in a press release on Sunday.
"If the school is closed, the village is threatened with depopulation. However, Vazrazhdane will not allow it. I will ask for a talk with the education minister as early as Monday to tell him categorically that the school is to remain," Kostadinov told worried residents he met in the village.
He added that this was how Bulgaria was being driven to a demographic crisis and people forced to migrate internally to big cities or externally abroad.
"When you close the school, you doom the community, you kill the village. This is exactly what GERB is doing - killing the smallest territorial unit - the village, which historically has been essential for the preservation of our country, providing a living for the population. That is why we will fight for this village, for this school and for every other thing we can save and preserve from the ruling parties," Kostadinov added.
