Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev took part in a meeting between representatives of the caretaker Cabinet and local governments in the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Albena on Friday The forum, focusing on Bulgaria's message for the new tourist season is organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

Modern tourists want to feel welcomed and are looking for different experiences, Kotsev said in his speech.

The Mayor recalled that this summer the season in Varna was opened with a big concert, which is something different compared to the previous years. He stressed that the Northern Black Sea coast in general has a significant potential for development, and the product it offers is different from that in the South. "In the North there are camping sites, the beaches are quieter and more peaceful," Kotsev argued, adding that there is currently an upward trend in demand for such type of product.

Kotsev also pointed out that advertising should focus on the specific experiences of different places in the country. He underlines that Varna [on the Black Sea] offers not only beautiful resorts and beaches, but also cultural and historical sites, including the oldest processed gold in the world [Varna Gold Treasure dates back to the time of the Chalcolithic]. The Mayor also commented that there is more need to promote all destinations in the country, as well as Bulgaria as a whole.

He also wished the industry a successful season and sent a message to tourists that they are welcome in Bulgaria.

This is the fifth edition of BTA's tourism forums, which are held twice every year - at the beginning of the summer and winter tourist season, to bring together central and local government representatives, the tourist business, NGOs and experts to discuss the messages of Bulgarian tourism in the coming season.
