March 9 (BTA) - No new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Bulgaria after the initial four cases, two in Pleven and two in Gabrovo, which were confirmed during the weekend, said on Monday morning the Head of the Military Medical Academy (MMA), Major General Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski. He is also the chairman of the National Operations Headquarters for the fight against the novel COVID-19 coronavirus.

Hospitals are imposing very strict preventive measures, including restricted access assisted by Interior Ministry officers and a 24-hour disinfection of all hospital wards.

Samples of people who have been in contact with coronavirus-infected patients have arrived for testing, General Mutafchiiski said. The National Operations Headquarters is deciding how to distribute the samples for faster results. Some of the samples from Gabrovo and Pleven will be examined at the Military Medical Academy.

Home quarantine is mandatory for people who have come into contact with coronavirus infected patients, General Mutafchiiski said. Following his talk Monday morning with the director of the hospital in Gabrovo, it was decided that all non-emergency wards at the establishment will be closed in order to limit hospital staff.

In Gabrovo, a disinfection of all public buildings and public transportation vehicles has already began. All cultural, sports and other public events, as well as all group public appearances, are canceled. Among the measures taken is the discontinuation of classes and activities in kindergartens and nurseries. The Regional Health Inspectorate is expected to give clear guidance to employers in the area on what procedures to follow to protect workers in local businesses. RI/DT
