The Museum of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo celebrates 52 years since its establishment on Monday. Traditionally on April Fool’s Day, the institution opens its doors and shows Gabrovo's generosity with events for all ages, the museum said.

"April Fool's Day is more special than ever. The museum opens its doors for its 52nd anniversary and has prepared a festive program for art lovers throughout the day. We look forward to welcoming you with events for young and old, and as always, admission is free. If you are ready for a day full of laughter and art, join us at the Museum of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo," said Svetlana Mihailova, head of Public Relations at the cultural institution. 

The House of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo was opened on April 1, 1972. The founder and the first director of the cultural institution was Stefan Furtunov (1926-2010), a lawyer by profession and a collector of Gabrovo anecdotes. The institution became a modern and unique cultural centre built under the motto "The world survives because it laughs".

On April 1, 1976, a small planet with the number 2206 was named Gabrovo, in honour of the folk humour that made the town famous around the world.
