An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale was registered on Thursday at 11:25 local time, in the seismic region of Vrancea in Romania, Romania's National Institute of Geophysics said on its official website.

The quake occurred at a depth of 146.7 km and was felt in Buzau, Sfantu Gheorghe, Focsani, Brasov, Ploiesti.

Since the beginning of February, 24 earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.1 and 4.2 have been recorded in Romania.

In 2023, the strongest earthquake in Romania occurred on February 14 in Gorj county. It had a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale at a depth of 6.3 km.
