Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel took part in the event "Women, Peace, Security", organized by the association "More Women in Power" and Zakia El Midaoui - the doyen of the diplomatic corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bulgaria. Co-organizers of the event were the Association's President Evelina Tsileva, Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Tsvetan Simeonov and Women Act Greece President May Zanni, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The UN Women, Peace, Security Agenda is a global roadmap for justice, security and human rights. It upholds the view that sustainable peace can only be achieved when women's voices are heard and their rights are protected," Gabriel pointed out.

In her speech, she noted that for the first time in its history, Bulgaria became a member of the UN Women Executive Board from 2023-2025. Bulgaria is also a member of the Human Rights Council for 2024-2026. The country's main priorities are promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.

She emphasized supporting women in innovation and highlighted the opportunities that the green transition offers for more girls to be leaders in the fight against climate change.

"The role of women and their participation in diplomatic missions to promote peace and security and to prevent and resolve conflict will become increasingly relevant. I believe that women and girls can contribute to a better, more peaceful and more secure society," Gabriel concluded.
