The VMRO-DPMNE party has alerted the prosecution office of North Macedonia about the actions of former interior minister Oliver Spasovski. The opposition party claims he is "personally and directly responsible for the chaos with personal documents".

Igor Janusev MP of VMRO-DPMNE said on the party's website: "For about two years, in his capacity as minister of the interior, Oliver Spasovski issued IDs he knew would be valid until February 12, 2024, despite the longer validity period written in them. Between February 12, 2019 and mid-2021, he headed the Interior Ministry, which issued the documents, thereby causing financial damage to tens of thousands of people. For two and a half years, (Spasovski) misled the Macedonian public with his actions, abusing his position and powers."

The Interior Ministry continued to issue passports and other identity documents with the name Republic of Macedonia until February 2021 - years after the name change of 2019.

The media reported on Wednesday that ZNAM movement leader and Kumanovo Mayor Maksim Dimitrievski also proposed criminal charges against Spasovski on the grounds that the former interior minister, who is tipped by the media as one of the possible presidential candidates, abused his office and showed incompetence  in performing his duties, which led to a delay in the replacement of IDs with documents featuring the new name, Republic of North Macedonia.
