site.btaProsecutor-General Accuses President Radev of Exerting Pressure on Prosecution Service

July 10 (BTA) - "The prosecution service is subjected to an unprecedented political-partisan pressure by President Rumen Radev and the political formations affiliated with him," said Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev in a statement at the Palace of Justice on Friday. He added that the prosecution service will notify the European Commission, the European Parliament and all embassies of European countries here.

'We'll continue to work in the same manner. We won't be stopped by the billions of oligarchs invested in the media and in politicians. The time of double standards has come to an end," said Geshev.

Radev and the parties behind him want a weak prosecution and thefts and burglaries to go on, said Geshev.

He added that the prosecution is not at fault if a presidential secretary receives unsigned rulings of the Supreme Administrative Court.

"We are not at fault if a presidential advisor receives unauthorized information from the State Intelligence Agency," said Geshev, adding that the prosecution works only with evidence.

"There is no need for those who pay their taxes to be concerned but those who poison our children should be," said Geshev.

Geshev made his statement in the presence of his deputies and members of the Association of Public Prosecutors, the Chamber of the Investigators and heads of prosecution services from across the country.

Later in the day Supreme Judicial Council Representative Boyan Magdalinchev invited President Radev to a meeting in connection with the mounting public tension and pressure on the judiciary.

The letter said that tensions generated among the public in recent days undermine trust in the court, the prosecution service and statehood. RY/PP
