July 15 (BTA) - Last Friday, when Bulgaria entered the ERM II, there was no counter-protest in front of the Council of Ministers, but rather a gathering of people who wanted to greet the government on the ERM II entry, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, opening Cabinet's sitting on Wednesday. He added that the government has always taken the side of the protestors, and he is very concerned by the deep rift within the nation that cannot be overcome in the foreseeable future.

Borissov went on to say that Bulgaria is the only country to believe that the coronavirus pandemic is over, while at the same time other countries are reintroducing restrictive measures. He expressed concern that come autumn, this may do Bulgaria a bad turn. The economic crisis is looming over Bulgaria. We have not started taking loans yet, Borissov said. The state needs to be mobilized. According to him, Bulgaria is the top beneficiary of EU funds, and he is ready to present options for their absorption after the sitting of the EU Council.

If Bulgaria manages to contain its finances in this way, its economy will be back to the levels of late 2018 - early 2019. For now, the focus should fall on the fair demands of the protestors, Borissov said.

He expressed his sympathy with the assaulted police officers and the beaten-up innocent protestors, and pointed out that the main goal of the provocations was to put a blood stain on the protests and force Borissov into resignation. He also said that it is the people who decide who and how should govern the country, and that there are procedures to follow when ousting a government and scheduling preliminary elections. Borissov also reminded that GERB has a long record of election victories.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister addressed the President and the opposition, warning that difficult times are in store for Bulgaria when unity and agreement will be the most valuable assets.
