Deceased Young Man's Organs Give Three People Second Chance to Live

Three Bulgarians received a second chance to live after a donor situation arose, handled by a team of the St. Georgi  University Hospital in the southern city of Plovdiv, the Health Ministry said here on Sunday. 

On October 27, the relatives of an 18-year-old male who was declared brain dead, decided to donate his organs and give others the chance to live. 

On 28 October, a team from the Prof. Alexander Chirkov University Hospital performed a heart transplant on a 43-year-old woman. A team from the Military Medical Academy performed a liver transplant on a 57-year-old woman, and medical specialists at the Lozenets University Hospital transplanted a kidney on a 41-year-old man. 

The Ministry of Health and the Medical Supervision Executive Agency offer sincere condolences to the relatives of the young man and express their gratitude and respect for the decision taken to save lives. Thanks are also expressed to the teams of the medical institutions involved in the donation and transplantation process.
