site.btaTurkiye’s National Security Council Discusses Steps to Resume Grain Deal

Turkiye’s National Security Council discussed Thursday evening possible steps to resume the Black Sea Grain Initiative brokered between Russia and Ukraine by the UN and Turkiye in July, 2022, which allowed grain to be exported from Ukrainian ports, Turkish media reported.

The meeting of the Council took place in Ankara under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.  

The three-hour meeting covered a range of issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, developments in Syria, Iraq, and Libya, according to a statement released afterwards.

Recent developments related to the ongoing war in Ukraine were discussed, as well as possible steps to revive the grain deal. The meeting reaffirmed Turkiye’s determination to continue its efforts to urgently end the war by establishing a just and lasting peace.

Turkiye's determination to eliminate the separatist terrorist organization, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), was also highlighted.

The situation in the South Caucasus was also discussed at the Ankara meeting. Armenia was reminded that the path to lasting peace in South Caucasus can only be achieved with the unconditional restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty and the fulfilment of the obligations under the agreements, which will contribute to the prosperity of all countries in the region, the statement reads.
