North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said Monday on his Facebook account that North Macedonia citizens, who were in close proximity to the shooting in North Kosovo early Sunday morning, are going home, accompanied by Kosovo police.
North Macedonia's prime minister, Dimitar Kovachevski, strongly condemned the events in North Kosovo and called for continued dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues in a peaceful and democratic manner. On his Facebook account, Kovachevski wrote that according to "the information from the country's intelligence services, as well as the information received from the services of NATO allies, there are no indications that show a threat to security in North Macedonia".
Ali Ahmeti, chairman of the largest Albanian party in North Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration, a coalition partner of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, said on social media that what happened in North Kosovo as a serious provocation that could have consequences in the region.
"These events are unacceptable and coordination and cooperation with the international community guaranteeing peace and independence of Kosovo is necessary and urgent," Ahmeti wrote, quoted by North Madenonia's media.
Norwegian Defence Minister Bjoern Arild Gram, who is on an official visit to North Macedonia, also expressed concern and said Norway condemns the attack on Kosovo police officers. "This incident is proof that tensions must be reduced and political dialogue must be brought back to prevent further escalation," he said.
At their joint press conference, North Macedonia's Defence Minister Slavjanka Petrovska said the incident was "further proof that both Pristina and Belgrade must intensify dialogue until it is not too late."
