Turkiye Becomes Increasingly Attractive to Foreign Film Producers

Over 200 foreign film productions have been filmed in Turkiye in 2022, which is an increase of 44% as compared to 2021, Turkiye’s Culture and Tourism Ministry data show. What has contributed to turning Turkiye into a hub for foreign cinema and TV productions is state support for foreign film productions under the newly-adopted Cinema Act, preferences in the promotion of the country's natural resources provided by the ministry, and last but not least, the availability of cheap labor.

Turkyie has hosted 224 productions in total, of which 17 are feature films, 96 are documentaries and 21 are TV series. The country has also been a filming location for music videos and commercials.

Among the movies filmed in Turkiye are the Oscar-winning Argo, the blockbusters Skyfall (part of the James Bond series), Charlie’s Angels, Inferno.

Istanbul, the Mediterranean resort Antalya and the Black Sea coast are among the favourite spots for location shooting by international directors film directors.

Renowned British director Guy Ritchie filmed a good part of his new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is based on events from WWII, in Antalya, near the town of Demre. The film was also shot on location in the Antalya Botanical Garden. The movie cost some USD 15 million to make.

This is Guy Ritchie’s second movie filmed in Antalya. A good part of his movie Operation Fortune starring Jason Statham and Hugh Grant, among others, was filmed at the Turkish Riviera.

The Bollywood movie Tiger 3 starring Salman Han and Katrina Kaif is also among the motion pictures filmed in Turkiye.
