site.btaBorissov, North Macedonia's PM Zaev Discuss Implementation of Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation

Sofia, March 22 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov wrote on
Facebook  on Monday that he had talked with North Macedonia's
Prime Minister Zoran  Zaev on the telephone. "I congratulated
him on his re-election as chairman of  his party [the Social
Democratic Union of Macedonia], and he wished me  success in the
upcoming parliamentary elections in Bulgaria," said Borissov.

He also said: "We concurred that the decisions which both
countries should make in the spirit of the Treaty of Friendship,
Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation should not be put off -
both in the name of our common history and in the name of our
common European future."

The Treaty was signed by Bulgaria and Macedonia in 2017.

Borissov did not specify what decisions were discussed and when
they should be made.

In an earlier statement, Skopje said they were going to shelve
the issue in the run-up to Bulgaria's April 4 parliamentary
elections so that it would not become part of the election
campaign.

Relations between the two countries soured after Bulgaria
refused to support the EU's negotiating framework for North
Macedonia, thus blocking the formal start of EU accession talks
with Skopje. NV/DD
