BTA Unveils Press Club in Kazanluk

Kazanluk, June 7 (BTA) - The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) opened
a Press Club in Kazanluk on Sunday. This is BTA's 12th press
club but the first one in a non-regional centre, BTA Director
General Maxim Minchev said. He voiced hope that the venue will
give birth to positive news, which the whole country needs.

"BTA has been waving the flag of responsible journalism very
high," President Rossen Plevneliev said at the opening. This
office is strategically important for the region, he noted. "If
we want to change and to strengthen our democracy, everyone
should have a say and his voice should be heard. The news cannot
be a monopoly of one entity and it is very nice that BTA is the
leading pioneer building regional centres, so that everyone
could be heard," the head of State also said. This will be a
place, where viewpoints will clash, the truth will be said and
the problems will be pointed out. There will be certainly
solutions, which upgrades democracy, according to the President.

"You prove in the worthiest way that you can be close to the
people, beyond the commercial, beyond the narrow interests and
in spite of the cut budgets and heavy financial restrictions,
with which you are faced every day," President Plevneliev noted.
BTA is the nationally responsible institution, which goes far
beyond Bulgaria's borders.

Kazanluk Mayor Galina Stoyanova said that the town generates
news of world relevance. "Now our news will already reach the
people, who seek the good and the positive," said she.

Attending the ceremony was also Minister of Agriculture and Food
Dessislava Taneva, who gave the first news briefing in the
freshly inaugurated press club.

The press club is housed in the Cultural and Information Centre
of Kazanluk. It has modern audio-visual equipment and offers a
possibility for direct on-line broadcasting.
