Electricity Prices for Household Users Reduced by 0.11% on Average
Sofia, July 31 (BTA) - The prices of electricity for household
users will decrease by an average of 0.11 per cent as of August
1, Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Chairman Ivan
Ivanov said on Friday, emerging from a closed-door meeting at
which the regulator endorsed the electricity prices for the
period from August 1, 2015 until June 30, 2016.
"The decrease was made after reserves were found," Ivanov said.
For the three main electricity distribution companies in
Bulgaria, the electricity prices for household users will change
as follows: for CEZ, which distributes electricity to Western
Bulgaria, including the capital Sofia, the price will fall by
0.63 per cent; for EVN in South-Central and Southeastern
Bulgaria, it will fall by 0.44 per cent; and for Energo-Pro in
North-Central and Northeastern Bulgaria, it will rise by 1.9 per
 cent.
The price rise for Energo-Pro is due to the specific nature of
the power grid in Northeastern Bulgaria, Ivanov said. A fourth
distributor, ERP Zlatni Piasaci, which distributes electricity
to the Golden Sands resort in the northeast, will reduce its
electricity price by more than 5 per cent.
EWRC also set a uniform rate of 38 leva for the public
obligation surcharge for both household and industrial users of
electricity, Ivanov said. "It is necessary to have a uniform
rate, because the law requires EWRC to set the surcharge in a
way that is transparent and fair for all users," he explained.
The decision comes after the beginning of the new electricity
pricing period was postponed from July 1 until August 1 with the
 approval of the National Assembly.
