Flights to Sofia's Old Terminal Diverted to New Terminal Due to Bomb Scare
Sofia, December 1 (BTA) - Terminal 1 of the Sofia Airport was sealed off Tuesday due to suspicions that a van parked nearby, had a bomb in it, the Interior Ministry said. No bomb was found by a specialized team but the airport diverted all Terminal 1 flights to Terminal 2 for the rest of the day.
No flights have been cancelled.
The suspicious van was parked at Terminal 1 by a passenger who boarded a flight at 05:00 hrs on Tuesday morning, police said. At 16:00 hrs a part of the luggage from the van was blown up in a controlled explosion.
The head of the Border Police, Antonio Nikolov, said that the passenger was a foreign national but would not disclose his identity.
