President Commends Interaction of Institutions Regarding Migrant Crisis

Sofia, March 2 (BTA) - President and Supreme Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Rosen Plevneliev praised the coordination and the performance of institutions regarding the prevention and containment of the effects on Bulgaria of the increased migration pressure in the region, the President's Press Secretariat said. At a working meeting with the operational headquarters for security and migration Plevneliev encouraged efficient communication and interaction of the Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the armed forces and the special services.

The HQ members familiarized the President with the actions undertaken in response to the possible risks of increased migration flow. Clear plans for response and coordination between the institutions have been elaborated and set into operation.

Instructions for interaction between the structures of the Bulgarian Army and the Border Police regarding border guarding have been drawn up. The neighbouring countries and the NATO partners have been informed of the participation of the Bulgarian army in the prevention of illegal border crossing.

The participants in the meeting focused on the expectations of the upcoming extraordinary European Council on March 7. Plevneliev said that Bulgaria will continue to insist on an all-European solution that would limit the dimensions of the crisis. He noted that efficient border protection does not run counter to the respect for human rights.

The participants in the meeting shared the opinion that all activities for restricting migration pressure on the Bulgarian borders should be duly financially secured.

The situation at the Bulgarian borders is under control now and there is no need to convene the Consultative Council on National Security. This can be reversed in the even of a sudden change of the situation with the migration wave, reads the message.
