Prosecutor General Demands Immunity of MP for Malfeasance in Office

Sofia, March 7 (BTA) - Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov Monday demanded the immunity of Movement for Rights and Freedoms MP Iliya Iliev, sources from the Prosecuting Magistracy said.

Iliev's immunity is demanded for acting as an accomplice in a gross malfeasance in office in 2007-2009 while he was a municipal councillor in the Northeastern city of Rousse elected on GERB's list.

While serving on the Rousse City Hall in 2007-2009 Iliev controlled three commercial companies using stooges: Rosalia MM EOOD, Energy Group 2003 EOOD and Construction and Investments EOOD, with which four contracts were concluded for repair works of railway drainage systems. The works turned out to have been completed by workers of the entity which awarded the contracts, instead of workers of the contractors.

According to Article 70, Paragraph 1 of the Constitution, Parliament is the body which can allow the launching of criminal proceedings against an MP.
