Legislative Changes Provide for Warnings on Tobacco Product Packaging
Sofia, March 24 (BTA) - On Thursday MPs in Parliament passed conclusively the detailed form and text of health warnings to be placed on each tobacco product packaging. The warnings will combine text and a respective photo.
A supplement to the law lists 14 versions of the textual warnings.
The MPs also passed restrictions relevant to designations that advertise or encourage tobacco product use, create an erroneous impression of its character and health consequences implying that it is beneficial to health.
The packaging will be fitted with a protective element and marked with unique identifiers allowing the tracking of the respective product.
The revisions determine the maximum levels of tar, nicotine and CO2 in the products and the methods for their measurement. Presentation, offering and sale of cigarettes and tobacco for hand-made cigarettes with characteristic taste and aroma qualities, containing additions like vitamins, caffeine and colouring elements are also forbidden.
Requirements in respect to electronic cigarettes and vaporizers were also introduced, as well as to the liquids containing nicotine.
