Bulgaria's First Central Heating System with Thermal Water Launched in Straldzha

Straldzha, Southeastern Bulgaria, December 14 (BTA) - Bulgaria's first central heating system with thermal water has just become operational in Straldzha. The launch of the system was announced by Mayor Atanas Kirov. Two schools and two kindergartens in the town are heated entirely with hot water from a nearby spring. The system maintains the temperature in the buildings at some 21 degrees.

The heating system includes a pump station and a pipeline of about 4,000 m from the spring to the boiler rooms. The spring has a capacity of 6.5 l/sec and the water comes to the surface at a temperature of 85 degrees.

The Mayor said the municipality will save over 50,000 leva a year solely from the heating of one of the schools and its swimming pool.

Carbon dioxide emissions will also be reduced considerably.

The Town Hall is planning an expansion of the system by using two more hot springs and connecting all public buildings in Straldzha.

The project is financed by the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Programme of the European Economic Area and was completed within a period of nine months.
