Scientist Says Bulgaria Enjoys Undisturbed Water Balance Despite Dry Summer

Varna, on the Black Sea, September 26 (BTA) - Bulgaria is enjoying an undisturbed water balance despite the dry summer it has just had, the deputy director of the Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Plamen Ninov, said here Tuesday. He was speaking at an international conference on hydrology and water management with the participation of the Danube countries.

Participating are 75 experts of 19 European countries.

This has been the third time Bulgaria hosts the forum.

Prof. Ninov expects that whatever problems have been caused by the drying up during the summer months, they will be resolved with the expected showers in autumn and winter. "Bulgaria does not have an extreme situation connected with water," the professor said.

He also said that at this stage Bulgaria is spared the global problem with the shortage of clean drinking water - or water shortage in general.
