Sofia, October 16 (BTA) - In a phone conversation on Monday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov congratulated his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama on the adoption of a national minorities protection act, which recognizes the Bulgarian minority in the country.

According to Borissov, safeguarding the rights of the Bulgarian minority will give an impetus to Albania's EU integration because it demonstrates a European way of policymaking. "The peoples of Bulgaria and Albania have a long history of friendship, coexistence and mutual support. With the adoption of this act we'll further the traditionally good relations between our two countries," said Borissov.

Rama thanked the Bulgarian prime minister for the support and vowed to do his best to speed up Albania along the road to Europe.

The Albanian Prime Minister accepted Borissov's invitation to pay an official visit to Sofia by the year's end.
