Sofia, May 25 (BTA) - Zachary Baharov carried off this year's Askeer Best Leading Actor Award for his role in "Chamkoria", based on the best-selling novel by Milen Ruskov and staged by Yavor Gurdev at Theatre 199.

Maria Stefanova received the Best Actress Award after returning to the stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Edward Albee's "Three Tall Women" directed by Stefan Spassov.

The Askeer theater awards were presented for the 28th time at the Bulgarian Army Theatre on Thursday. It was one of the events on the long list of events celebrating May 24, the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture Boil Banov and of the Minister of Defence Krassimir Karakachanov.

Vassil Mihaylov received the Distinction Award for 2018 for his contribution to theatrical art.

The awards for best performance and direction went to Ivan Panteleev for his rendition of Maksim Gorgy.

Ana Papdopulu and Malin Krustev received the awards for best supporting actors.

Veselin Petrov was the rising star at Askeer 2018 and Marina Raichinova carried off the award for stage design.

Nina Pashova was awarded for her costumes for two plays at the National Theatre. Olya Stoyanova grabbed the award for contemporary Bulgarian playwright. VI/BR
