Deputy Education Minister
Addresses Anti-drug Campaign
Opening

Sofia, May 9 (BTA) - "It is important that we are no longer closing our eyes for the topic of dependencies. We knew what was happening for many years, but it seemed we lacked the courage to face the problem, not only to acknowledge it, but to seek solutions," said here on Thursday Deputy Education Minister Tanya Mihaylova during the opening of the "Chose Life" anti-drug campaign, organized by the Bulgarian National Radio, the Education Ministry reported.

Mihaylova said her Ministry and the Health Ministry are developing guidelines on how to act when coming across drug use, possessed and distributed in schools. The work will be done jointly with the Interior Ministry, the State Agency for Child Protection and municipalities. The guidelines will offer security to students, teachers and principals, who will be able to react adequately and alert the competent institutions.

The campaign aims to hold a public discussion about the dangers of drug abuse with the help of institutions, NGOs and those affected. LI/MY
