July 2 (BTA) - Nearly 2 million leva will be invested in archeological excavations along the Hemus motorway, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) said on Thursday. Under a framework agreement between RIA and the National Archaeological Museum with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAM-BAS), RIA has announced two invitations under the Public Procurement Act to conduct archaeological research. During constriction of large infrastructure projects, RIA will be the assignor of both the construction activities and the archaeological excavations.

Eleven archeological sites will be studied on the territory of Lovech district along the route of the Hemus highway from the Boaza road junction to the Kalenik road junction. It is assumed that the predominant part of them are mounds, as well as multi-layered settlements from different historical epochs. Excavations will also be conducted on section one of the road junction "Boaza" to the intersection with the road Lukovit - Ugarchin, including the road junction "Dermantsi" (from km 87 + 800 to km 103 + 060), and on section two - from the end of the road junction "Dermantsi" to the connection with the road Radyuvene - Katunets, including the road junction "Kalenik" (from km 103 + 060 to km 122 + 260). The estimated value of the order is 1,890,000 leva without VAT, and the deadline for execution is between 40 and 80 days for the individual sites.

Archaeological sites will be explored also in sections four, five and six. This is the route from the end of the road junction "Pleven" at the intersection with road II-35 Pleven - Lovech to the connection with road I-5 Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo, including the road junction of Hemus motorway in Veliko Tarnovo district. The estimated value of the order is 28,000 leva without VAT or 33,600 leva with VAT. The implementation period is 20 days. RY/DT
