Sofia, August 11 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev congratulated on Monday Recep Tayyip Erdogan on winning the presidential election in Turkey, said Plevneliev's Press Secretariat.

Plevneliev extends his most sincere congratulations to Erdogan on being elected Turkey's President in the country's first direct presidential election, in which the Turkish people decided who will head the country in the next five years. Plevneliev says he believes that the citizens' free choice is a fundamental democratic right, which is the duty of statesmen to guarantee and uphold.

Plevneliev says in his letter that the modern challenges for peace and security require an even closer dialogue and joint efforts in the name of regional and global stability. The Bulgarian President voices hope that cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey, as well as their contacts as part of NATO, the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and other international and regional organizations, will continue to develop on the foundations of good neighbourliness and mutual respect for the prosperity of the two peoples.
