Sofia, August 19 (BTA) - The leadership of the Ministry of Interior discussed Tuesday the organization and maintenance of order during the forthcoming elections. The National Meeting of the ministerial leadership was attended by Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki who expressed full support for the work of the institution, the government information service said.
Commending the Ministry's work on the preparations for the elections, Bliznashki noted that everyone involved faces complicated tasks and that all public systems should be stabilized to ensure a normal election process.
Interior Ministry structures should also concentrate on stopping vote-buying by preventive actions and by encouraging the people to cooperate with law-enforcement authorities in order to prevent such crimes because these mean encroachment on their political rights, the PM said. "We have to demonstrate intolerance towards such phenomena and show that the law-enforcement authorities are not afraid of shady backstage actions," Bliznashki said, adding that he expects the elections to regain the confidence of the people in their own institutions.
The National Meeting also discussed the current situation in the country, the actions to manage the consequences of recent natural disasters and those involving the fight against organised crime.
Emerging from the meeting, the Prime Minister told journalists that work on the preparations for the elections is going according to plan and that the Election Board with the Council of Ministers is expected to become operational next week.
