President Plevneliev Urges Political Forces to Find Solutions Regarding Constitutional Amendments

Sofia, July 21 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev urges the
political forces in Parliament to put aside their party
interests and differences, and use the next few days responsibly
to find solutions in the interest of the Bulgarian citizens'
and the European partners' expectations, reads a position issued
Tuesday by Plevneliev's Press Secretariat on the occasion of
the ongoing talks in Parliament for reaching a consensus
regarding the constitutional amendments.

The President voices hope that the parliamentary represented
political forces will maintain the constructive approach in the
search for solutions to the constitutional amendments, which aim
 to improve the Judiciary's work.

According to Plevneliev, the judicial reform is a key national
priority and there is no doubt that its successful
implementation requires constitutional amendments. This is a
serious and responsible process, especially in the 43rd National
Assembly, with its diversity and wide political representation.
Despite of this, significant progress has been made thus far,
thanks to the efforts for finding consensus, Plevneliev says.

The arguments about technicalities should not be allowed to
become insurmountable obstacles, Plevneliev states, stressing
the importance for the reform to generate sustainability for the
changes made to the justice system. That sustainability is only
possible when there is broad consensus. "If we manage to
complete the remaining few steps promptly and in this nationally
responsible manner, we will send a strong positive signal to
the Bulgarian citizens and the European partners," Plevneliev is
 quoted as saying.

The consequences of the reform's potential failure will be grave
for the citizens' trust in the institutions, for Bulgaria's
effective membership in European structures, including its
Schengen accession, Plevneliev further states.
