Malta Wins Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia

Sofia, November 22 (BTA) - Destiny Chuckunyere of Malta won the 13th Junior Eurovision Song Contest, hosted by the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The final round was held in Arena Armeec on Saturday night. Chuckunyere performed the song "Not My Soul," which earned her the highest aggregate score from the jury and the viewers: 185 points.

Second place went to Mika of Armenia for her song "Love," and third place was won by Lina Kuduzovic of Slovenia, who sang "Prva ljubezen" ("First Love"). The Bulgarian entrants Gabriela Yordanova and Ivan Stoyanov, who together performed the song "The Colour of Hope," placed ninth.

This year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest involved young artists from 17 countries: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Bulgaria.

The event's logo was inspired by the beauty of Bulgarian nature and was in keeping with the message "#discover".

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is organized by the European Broadcasting Union. It was first held in Copenhagen in 2003.

A seven-metre-tall statue was put up at a central Sofia intersection on Saturday to celebrate the 13th edition of the contest. The impressive art installation, weighing 2 tonnes, was created by Italian architect Maurizio Leoni. It was made of aluminium and will stay in its place until next spring, when it will be moved to the park in front of the NDK convention centre.
