Bulgarians Win 68 Medals in International Science Olympiads in 2015

Sofia, January 12 (BTA) - Sixty-eight medals and six honorary diplomas went to the credit of the Bulgarian student teams which took part in international science olympiads in 2015. Their achievements were acknowledged during the fifth annual meeting of the country's science olympiad competitors with the President of Bulgaria.

President Rosen Plevneliev told the students: "Your achievements blaze a trail for a future Bulgaria. A Bulgaria which has a new generation that is talented, growing, creative and successful and can stand up to the new challenges."

Plevneliev said the national science teams reach new heights and are more successful with every passing year. Bulgaria is among the top six nations in the all-time ranking of the oldest international mathematics competition, and fifth in the informatics ranking, he noted. Bulgaria was the best performing EU nation at the 2014 Informatics Olympiad in Taiwan, winning two gold and one silver medal.

Throughout the history of the Bulgarian science olympiad movement, the country's students have won over 700 distinctions, including 115 gold, 241 silver and 268 bronze medals and over 100 honorary diplomas, putting the country among the world's top eight in the absolute all-time ranking, Plevneliev said.

"These results have been achieved mainly thanks to the talent, hard work and remarkable dedication of the young people and the devotion of their teachers," the President said.
