IMRO to OpposePossible Veto on Election Code Amendments
Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, May 3 (BTA) - Talking to journalists at BTA's press club in Haskovo Tuesday, Milen Mihov MP of the Patriotic Front and deputy leader of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) said that compulsory voting, the Bulgarians' voting abroad and the other Election Code amendments are "a way to curb the role of vote buying, ethnic voting, voting influenced by business interests and voting in Bulgaria organized by a foreign country.
Mihov said the IMRO would oppose a possible presidential veto on three key points: voting abroad, compulsory voting, and an election campaign conducted in the voters' mother tongue.
"If these amendments are vetoed, we will have to seek very serious dialogue with our partners in Parliament to override the President's veto," he said.
Mihov added that he did not know why expatriate Bulgarians were protesting because nothing would change in the EU and the United States. In addition, voting is not compulsory for Bulgarians abroad.
