Europol Director Wainwright Congratulates PM Borissov for Recent SuccessfulCounterfeit Euro Operation
Sofia, May 22 (BTA) - Europol's Director Rob Wainwright congratulated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov for a successful operation against the printing of counterfeit euro. The congratulations were uploaded on Borissov official website on Sunday.
Wainwright describes the operation as a significant operational success in the fight against counterfeit euro, achieved by the Bulgarian law enforcement and judicial authorities, and largely supported by Europol. The operation was conducted by the State Agency for National Security in April in northern Bulgaria. A printing press for counterfeit euro was busted near the city of Pleven. According to Europol's Director, the case is of specific importance, because the counterfeit banknotes were of exceptionally high quality and undetectable by some devices.
Those who contributed to the operation's successful outcome must be congratulated and supported in reaching their operational potential as much as possible, in cooperation with Europol, Wainwright says. He notes that the investigating and prosecuting authorities must be congratulated not only for the excellent results, but also for promptly inviting Europol experts, who have joined the investigation immediately.
He notes that thanks to the good coordination and shared evidence, Europol has gathered thousands of pages of data for an additional analysis, which will likely result in many new investigations. Wainwright has offered Europol's further assistance in analyzing additional electronic evidence that is part of the case.
