Sofia, February 19 (BTA) - The normal monthly cost of living of a four-member family including two adults and two children requires 581. 31 leva per capita, the Institute of Trade Union and Social Surveys with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) data for the fourth quarter of 2017 show. The news was revealed by CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov, the institute's Director Lyuben Tomev and expert Violeta Ivanova Monday.

The money is necessary to cover the basic needs of food, house maintenance, healthcare, education, transport and recreation by average Bulgarian standards. The cost of living of a four-member family is 2,325 leva. If job salary is the sole source of income then its net amount should not be less than 1,163 leva for each parent (gross 1,489 leva).

In December the net amount of the average salary stood at 876 leva, which means that it is 25 per cent below the required average cost of living values, CITUB said.

The cost of living of a four-member family in Sofia is 3,023.64 leva, the average sum required per capita in such a family is 755.91 leva, which exceeds the average figures for the country by 30 per cent. For each of the two parents in a family living in Sofia the average salary should not be lower than 1,512 leva to provide the necessary conditions for living in the capital city.
