Sofia, May 17 (BTA) - European Parliament President Antonio Tajani put forward a package of ten billion euro of European investments in infrastructure and digital networks in the Western Balkans, Tajani himself said, speaking at a news conference on Thursday in Sofia.
The proposal was made during the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Sofia on Thursday. Attending the event are the leaders of most EU member states and of the countries in the Western Balkans.
Tajani said that he talked with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and expressed agreement with a proposal of the European Commission about possible membership of Serbia and Montengero by the end of 2025. At the same time, Tajani reminded that the European rules must be respected, and urged for hard work in the coming years.
The stability on the Balkans is stability for the EU as well, Tajani said. He said that the region is European and that the policy in respect of the Western Balkans is very important for the EU.
Tajani also said that he strongly supports the actions of Digital Economy and Society Commissioner Mariya Gabriel in respect of roaming charged and digital policy in the region and noted that the European Parliament is strongly committed.
