The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) will host the First National Scientific Conference on Environment, which will be held in two parallel scientific sessions on March 19-20, the institute said.
The mission of the conference is to strengthen collaboration between scientists from different scientific institutions at the national level and to encourage young scientists to actively participate in interdisciplinary research.

The conference will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences; to carry out collaboration between researchers from different fields of applied and experimental meteorology, climatology, hydrology and ecology, in relation to risk assessment and forecasting of natural disasters, including - floods, droughts, thunderstorms, cold and heat waves, high winds and air pollution.

On two consecutive days, scientists and experts from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, the Institute of Horticulture, the Institute of Biodiversity, the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography, the Institute of Nuclear Research and Nuclear Power Engineering; the Institute of Catalysis, the National Center for Public Health and Analyses, the Executive Hail Suppression Agency, the Sofia University, the Burgas Technical University, as well as North Macedonia’s Hydrometeorological Service, will work to strengthen the cooperation between different scientific institutions and to promote the activity of young experts and scientists.

The scientific sessions will be organized in six main areas. They will exchange ideas and experiences for collaboration between researchers from different fields of applied and experimental meteorology, climatology, hydrology and ecology, in relation to risk assessment and prediction of natural disasters in the light of a changing climate.
