During the spring break, from April 1 to 5, the Sofia Botanical Garden will be holding its first children's camp, Vacation in the Botanical Garden. The programme includes themed activities, games, creative workshops and adventures in the garden's greenhouses and garden, said the management of the Botanical Garden.

Children aged 8 to 12 are invited.

The camp aims to awaken children's curiosity about the world of plants and win them over to their conservation. A visit to a botanical garden will also help children learn and develop their relationship with nature.

Each day of the camp is dedicated to a different theme: Botanical gardens - what it is and why they are important; Rainforests - the lungs of the planet and a treasure trove of plants; Deserts and nature's inventions for survival and plant diversity; Freak plants: aquatic, insectivorous and other bizarre, and interesting species; Useful plants - in the medicine cabinet and in the pantry; Spring flowers.

The Botanical Garden plans to make the camp a year-round program for children, their families, schools and kindergartens in Sofia and the country.

The Botanical Garden of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, above the ring road of Sofia.

Run by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Botanical Garden houses the richest public collection of plants in the Balkans with over 4,500 species and forms of plants. Over 1% of the world's diversity of higher plants and over 3,300 species of plants from all continents are grown here.

A dedicated space for botanical activities and events has just been opened as part of the garden.
