site.btaOver BGN 4 Mln Needed to Counter Landslides, Erosion, Abrasion Processes in Bulgaria, Programme Shows

As at August 31, 2022, there were 2,216 landslides registered in Bulgaria with a total area of 22,328.8 ha, shows the Programme for preventing and limiting landslides on Bulgarian territory, erosion and abrasion along the Danubian and Black Sea coasts for the 2022-2027 period. The Programme was approved by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works and was published on the Ministry's website on Thursday. 

The total estimated sum for the period for preventive actions that includes landslide, erosion and abrasion phenomena across Bulgaria stands at BGN, 4, 389,089,540 inclusive of VAT, the Programme reads. It envisages BGN 2,143,933,000 for countering landslides, inclusive of BGN 67 million for unforeseen expenditures.

The resources for studying landslides, fortifying the ground and monitoring landslides, including those caused by erosion and abrasion, amount to BGN 2,076,933,000, of which the biggest amount of resources - BGN 1,075,369,000 - is allocated for the landslides registered in Northern Bulgaria (the Pleven area). A total of BGN 547,185,200 are needed for the landslides registered in Southern Bulgaria (the Pernik area).

The actions to prevent abrasion along the Black Sea coast are estimated at BGN 84,822,000 based on information provided by Geozashtita EOOD - Varna, the Regional Development Ministry and part of the Black Sea municipalities. The sum is subject to change in view of the active construction works along the coast. The sum does not cover a large part of the coastal sections affected by landslides. A total of BGN 427,420 are set aside for an expert review of the coastline and an assessment of the abrasion processes.

The Programme will be implemented through projects at national, regional and local levels distributed by territory and time. The document is subject to changes and supplements should unforeseen landslides, erosion and abrasion processes occur on a large scale and with grave consequences.
