An exhibition showing the process of how a forest comes to be will be unveiled at the Regional Natural History Museum of Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) on January 5, the Museum said on its website.  The exhibition was prepared by WWF Bulgaria jointly with the Southwest State Enterprise and the Society of Animalists, Florists and Scientific Illustrators (SAFSI) to show in an artistic way the beauty of Bulgaria’s forests and their rich plant and animal life.

“Wonders of Nature: from Seed to Forest” features nearly 30 posters with information about biodiversity in Bulgaria, the planting of forests, the biggest threats to forests and the main challenges to their conservation. Visitors will also see colour illustrations of forest habitats and their inhabitants by Ana Sokerova, Anelia Pashova, Asen Ignatov, Denitsa Peneva, Dina Rogatnich, Erik Daniel, George Pchelarov, Iliya Boyarov, and Snezhina Popova.

The exhibition can be viewed free of charge.

WWF Bulgaria Forest Programme Manager Neli Doncheva explains, as quoted by the environmental organization, that growing a forest is a complex process that requires many conditions to be taken into account, including the quality, species, and origin of the saplings as well as the place and time of the planting.

The exhibition has already been presented in Sofia, Ruse, and Belene. It is organized within the LIFE REFOREST project.

The project aims to enhance the restoration of 275 ha of damaged forest habitats within Natura 2000 network of protected areas in Southwestern Bulgaria, to enhance the development and implementation of an adequate restoration approach for forest habitats in Bulgaria, and to promote the sustainable and efficient forest management of non-state forests in Bulgaria.
