Bulgaria's Embassy in Tokyo and designer Ivan Donev held the second edition of Bulgarian Art and Fashion Days in Japan on November 27-29. The show was mottoed "Bridge Between Cultures", the Embassy said on Facebook.
Twenty dresses designed by Donev were shown at the residence of the Bulgarian Ambassador.
The pieces de resistance were a Japanese dress inspired by the Japanese cherry tree and a Bulgarian dress made of hundreds of lacy doilies crocheted by Bulgarian women, the Embassy said. The dialogue between cultures was reflected in the accompanying performances - Eva Kestner and Shiro Ishizaka played a Japanese taiko drum and a Bulgarian drum respectively, and Yuko Shimoji performed a modern dance inspired by Bulgarian and Japanese traditions.
Bulgarian Snejana Nakatani, who lives in Japan, presented contemporary garments made from traditional Japanese fabrics.
The event was attended by ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, Japanese fashion designers, representatives of the fashion industry and business organizations, cultural and educational figures, and Japanese journalists.
In November, Ivan Donev held a fashion show in Ankara organized on the initiative of the Bulgarian Embassy in Turkiye and Ambassador Angel Cholakov.
