For the third consecutive year, the National Representation for Tourism at the Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin organized a promotional event for Bulgaria on the eve of the International Tourism Day, the Bulgarian Embassy in the German capital said on its website on Friday. Partners of the event were the airports in Sofia, Varna and Burgas, the Union of German Travel Journalists "CTOUR" and the hosts from the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin.

This year the theme of the presentations and the discussion was dedicated to the air connectivity between Germany and Bulgaria for 2025.

The event was opened by Grigor Porozhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Germany, who "stressed the importance of the German tourism market and the huge potential between the two countries". Klaus Hildebrandt, Editor-in-Chief of the German travel media fvw/Travel Talk, drew attention to the promotional event Experience Bulgaria/Erlebe Bulgarien held in Bulgaria in June. Hans Peter Gaul, Chair of the German Travel Journalists Club CTOUR Touristik.Forum, also noted the intensive cooperation in terms of journalistic infotours, the coverage of more and more events and future events organized jointly with the organization, the Bulgarian diplomatic mission said.

The flight program to Sofia and the tourist potential of the region were presented by Maria Kafelova, a representative of Sofia Airport's Marketing and Business Development Directorate. Flights from Germany account for 17% of the Airport's total traffic and this share is expected to grow next year. "Sofia is recognized as one of Europe's hidden treasures and we expect the German market to discover our capital more and more in the future," the Embassy further stated.

The novelties for 2025 in the programmes of Varna and Burgas airports were presented by Radostina Zlateva, route development expert at Fraport Bulgaria. She focused on the planned increased volume of flights from Germany to Varna and Burgas airports in the 2025 summer season thanks to the new partnership between SunExpress and Electra Airways, as well as on the potential of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast as an attractive destination for year-round tourism.

The Bulgarian diplomatic mission also reported that the head of Business Development and Aviation at Berlin Bandenburg Airport, Johannes Mohrmann, has stressed "the important role of direct air connectivity between the two countries for the development of sustainable year-round tourism".

The forum was also attended by representatives of the airlines SunExpress, International Carrier Consult (ICC), Eurowings, European Air Charter and others, the German travel association Deutscher Reiseverband (DRV), the German-Bulgarian Forum (DBF), travel agencies and journalists.
