RSV 421 Arrives at Deception Island
The Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) reached the shore of Deception Island. The ship anchored at around 0945 hrs local time. Unloading at Gabriel de Castilla Spanish Antarctic Station has started. The ship took there the members of the Spanish expedition who boarded RSV 421 in Cartagena, Spain.
If unloading is completed in time and weather conditions permit, in the late hours of February 15 RSV 421 will head back to Livingstone, picking up one after the other seven Spanish Antarctic passengers from Deception Island, 15 others from the Juan Carlos I base, and the Bulgarian journalists who spent the night at the home base. They will all be transported to the neighbouring island of King George, where they will catch a flight to Chile, and from there they will gradually head for their homes in Europe.
BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on board the ship to Livingston Island and back and will cover the Bulgarian expedition throughout its stay in Antarctica.
