On September 20, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) opened a new National Press Club in Troyan. It adds up to a total of 41 press clubs that the national news agency has in and out of the country. The opening event coincided with one of the largest local culture events, the Plum Festival.
The BTA National Press Club in Troyan was blessed by Metropolitan Gavriil of Lovech and Protopriest Voyden Bozhkov.
BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Lovech Regional Governor Dora Stoyanova, Troyan Mayor Donka Mihaylova, and Metropolitan Gavriil cut the ribbon at the ceremony. Attending the opening were also BTA Deputy Director General Evgenia Drumeva, MPs Ivelin Parvanov and Kiril Todorov, Troyan Monastery vicar Archmadrite Stefan, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Apriltsi Mayor Tihomir Kukenski, the Troyan deputy mayors, the chair and members of the municipal council, institutional representatives and journalists.
Valchev said that the opening of BTA's national press club in Troyan, not far from Ivan Hadzhiyski's historic house museum, is a modern refutation of Bulgarian self-underestimation, because it is a well-thought-out job, well initiated and well managed with the help of Troyan Mayor Donka Mihaylova and the town’s Municipal Council.
He added that this is BTA’s fifth national press club in a non-regional capital, following the press clubs in the towns of Kazanlak, Petrich, Samokov and Svishtov.
As of April 2024, Preslava Ivanova is BTA correspondent in Troyan. Until then, BTA covered the local events through the efforts of its correspondents in the regional capital of Lovech.
