site.btaBSP - United Left's Ivo Hristov Meets with Intellectuals in Haskovo
Prof Ivo Hristov Sunday met with intellectuals in Haskovo to express firm support for BSP - United Left's top candidate Vladimir Marinov and the other candidates of the coalition, its local campaign headquarters said.
"All of us, today's generation of Bulgaria, will be disgraced if we are the people to put 'The End' sign on 1300-year-old Bulgaria. But since there can be no such message, people must vote en masse," Hristov said.
He said he felt anguished to see the proverbial obedience of a large part of the people in the face of mass poverty, flagrant social injustice, crime and corruption.
"We need to put an adequate diagnosis to the current situation. After 35 years [since the start of democratic changes], we have social disparity in the country empty of human potential, and we also have primitivized people who cannot generate big ideas. I will put it more simply and clearly: a population which is always waiting for someone to fix it," Hristov said.
He added that the Bulgarian parties should realize that their action or inaction can put an end to Bulgaria. Until 1989, it had a population of 9 million; 35 years later it has shrunk to 5.5 million. Still, Hristov said there is always hope if people vote.
