Those who want change are the largest political force in Bulgaria, and they do not want to be governed by Boyko Borissov and Delyan Peevski, according to Toma Belev, who tops the election candidates' list of the Green Movement in Constituency No. 24 in Sofia.

Tree-time prime minister Boyko Borissov, who leads the GERB party, has been a towering figure in Bulgarian politics since 2009. Delyan Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, secured essential support for the latest regular government (June 2023 – April 2024), which was based on a shaky political formula involving GERB, the alleged pillar of the status-quo, and pro-change parties.

"The situation is unique," Belev told supporters on Friday. He cited latest opinion polls which show that more than a quarter of voters do not want to vote for the large parties. "This means that those who want change are the largest political force, and this force does not want to be governed by Borissov and Peevski. This means that the energy of the protests of 2020-2021 is not lost completely," Belev argued.

He urged: "Vote calmly and with a clear conscience. They may try to discourage you by predicting success for Borissov and Peevski, but they cannot form a majority by themselves and are looking for prop-ups. If you don't want a Borissov 4 cabinet, don't vote for prop-ups."

Belev went on to say: "I have always been opposed to voting for an evil, small or big. If you vote for the lesser of two evils, the only thing you can achieve is make it bigger. If you see no good fellow to vote for, it will make more sense to set up a party than to vote for an evil, albeit a small one."
