Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev met with European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi, Georgiev’s Ministry said in a press release on Thursday. The meeting focused on various aspects of the work of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Bulgaria.
Georgiev informed Kovesi about the latest developments regarding several legislative initiatives. He presented the Government’s anti-corruption reforms and the new legislation aimed at combating money laundering.
Kovesi thanked Georgiev for his commitment to ensuring the necessary conditions for the effective and independent exercise of the EPPO’s powers in Bulgaria. This includes providing suitable premises for accommodating the special administrative and investigative team of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Kovesi also underlined the need for Bulgaria to nominate candidates to fill the remaining spots for European Delegated Prosecutor.
Earlier on Thursday, Georgiev took part in a Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.
