The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry expresses its full support for the Joint Statement of the Presidents of the United States and Egypt and the Emir of Qatar for a ceasefire in the Middle East and the release of the hostages, the Foreign Ministry said in a position published on Friday.

"We welcome the mediation efforts aimed at ending the violence and encourage the parties in the process to reach an agreement quickly and to fully implement the agreement, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2735 and US President Joe Biden's peace plan of May 31, 2024," the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministry reaffirms its position that reaching an agreement would contribute to the overall efforts to deescalate tensions in the Middle East region and ease the humanitarian situation.

The DPA reported, quoting a statement by US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller, that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had spoken on August 5 with the leaders of Qatar and Egypt about efforts to deescalate rising tensions in the Middle East. Blinken spoke with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati, Miller said.
