Tennis player Ivan Ivanov made history by winning an all-Bulgarian final at the US Open Boys’ Singles on Saturday. Top seed Ivanov defeated fifth seed Alexander Vasilev 7-5, 6-3 in a match that lasted one hour and 15 minutes.
Ivanov, who trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy, secured his second Grand Slam title following his victory at Wimbledon earlier this season.
This marks the fourth Grand Slam boys' singles title won by a Bulgarian player. With this achievement, Bulgaria now ranks alongside Canada, Croatia, and the United Kingdom in total boys’ singles Grand Slam titles.
In 2008, Grigor Dimitrov won both Wimbledon and the US Open boys’ singles titles. Ivanov has now matched that feat.
Left-handed Alexander Vasilev missed the chance to become the third Bulgarian to claim a boys’ Grand Slam title.
